Communion Confession

Ideating

What do we have that we have not received?

Lent is fasting - sackcloth and ashes

Lent is prayer - what a gracious and generous gift.

Lent is reorientation towards God - setting our hearts on things above, that is Christ.

Fasting is a removal of comfort. Physical and emotional to find our fill not in the world, but in God

Attempt 1

You, O Lord, have not spared your patience

You have not spared your kindness

You have not spared your gentleness

You have not spared your justice

You have not spared your son

You have opened up the gates to your abundant kingdom

Yet we have withheld our wants

We have withheld our desires

We have withheld our creaturely comforts

We have withheld our freedom

We have built our own walled kingdoms

Forgive us for our selfishness, our greed, and our selfish ambition. Forgive our quarrelling and our worldly pursuit.

Let this bread and cup be a reminder of how you have

Attempt 2:confession for communion

Father our clothing is worn, frayed, and tattered. Too long have we worn selfish ambition, greed, envy, and strife. Forgive us

Clothe us anew, Jesus, in Your robe of white that You have washed with your blood. Let the stains of the world and our actions be cleansed as you lift our heads once more. May our hearts remember our first love, Jesus.

Let this cup and this bread be a reminder and an anchor of the total and full forgiveness you offer. May your love sustain us, your faithfulness hold us, and your hope strengthen us.
