I watched this today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drNUHoT82o0
It was really encouraging to see the value of holding fast to what is true and calling people to holy living. It demonstrates the type of attack that a person may encounter as they start to work towards what it means to live faithfully. A certain type of pushback against the hard work of doing what is right.
What struck me to though is when the pastor decides to leave. He had been there five years, and then realized he was to move on. That the change he brought in instituting church discipline and returning the church holy living. Being Christian not only on Sundays, but Monday through Saturday too, was done. A different pastor had to come to lead the church to unity in the next phase. It was because the leadership of the first pastor was firm, clear, and directed. But what the church needed after all that turmoil of getting back on the right path was a gentler shepherd. Still preaching truth. But different now. That's quite a lesson though. Don't overstay your time. An attentiveness to the Holy Spirit is key for these transitions. Have to listen for God's voice and respond with obedience. That is a hard call!
But it demonstrates where the ultimate allegiance lies with the person.
